Registered Nurse (RN) – Orthopedic Unit (4E)
The RN on the Orthopedic Unit (4E) provides comprehensive care to patients admitted for both elective and non-elective orthopedic surgeries. These procedures include, but are not limited to, total joint replacements, spine surgeries, and fracture fixations. This Unit also serves patients with complex wounds requiring biopsies, and/or cultures for targeted antibiotic therapy and wound management. In addition, the unit frequently cares for individuals recovering from traumatic injuries who may need to use orthopedic devices such as external fixators or traction.
The patient population primarily consists of middle-aged to older adults. Nurses on this unit gain valuable experience in pain management, wound care, and discharge planning, including transitions to home or extended care facilities. There are also significant opportunities to support patients through physical and occupational therapy assessments as part of their recovery journey.
As a Registered Nurse (RN) at Memorial you will be responsible for delegation, supervision and provision of the nursing care of a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age-appropriate care. Participates in research when appropriate and incorporates research findings into evidence-based clinical practice. Contributes to quality improvement processes. Adheres to MHS Mission, Vision, and Values, the MHS Nursing Division Mission, Vision and Philosophy, the ANA Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nursing Act.
