CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNICIAN - 11677
Springfield, ILPerform responsible technical work on patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Responsible for the operation of various types of equipment and apparatus in providing assistance and support to the physicians performing procedures. Responsible for the proper operation of x-ray equipment and radiation safety. This work is performed under the supervision of the Manager of the Cardiac Cath Lab.

Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of approved School of Radiology or equivalent training.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
- Maintain an Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety license and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certificate.
- Radiation safety classes for all technologists working in the Cath Lab will be required.
- Current BLS required.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrates consistent proficiency in performing most procedures including, but not limited to, caths, PTCA, stent, EP/ablation, AICD/pacemaker placement, peripheral vascular cases, and AAA.
Clinical Ladder Requirements:
Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder Levels as follows (completion of probationary period is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder):
- Special Procedure Technologist I: Technologist who is new to the CCL environment or has limited previous experience and achieves a range of 0-9 credits on the Clinical Behavior Grid.
- Special Procedure Technologist II: Technologist who achieves a range of 10-19 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence from at least 2 categories.
- Special Procedure Technologist III: Technologist who achieves a range of 20-29 credits on the Clinical Behavior Grid with evidence from at least 3 categories.
- Special Procedure Technologist IV: Technologist who achieves at least 30 credits on the Clinical Behavior Grid with evidence from all 4 categories. Nationally-recognized certification or Bachelor’s degree required.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of electrical equipment in a cardiovascular catheterization laboratory during a variety of procedures.
- During the procedure, monitor the patient's electrocardiogram, alert the physician of any irregular heart activity or change in pressure. Charge the patient appropriately for the procedure.
- Is able to properly perform patient pre-procedure teaching. Obtain consent forms signed by the patient prior to the procedure, when appropriate.
- Is able to prepare patient for the procedure.
- Act as a circulator in the case, connect monitoring lines, check pulses, collect and set up appropriate equipment for the case.
- Perform as a sterile assistant, assist the physician in scrubbing and maintaining a sterile field, assist the physician with catheter and/or equipment insertion and removal. Dress and/or suture insertion site following the procedure. Set up arterial pressure line (if needed) or pull sheath and obtain hemostasis.
- Can assist in the use of arterial closure devices.
- Record, interpret, and calculate various types of data collected during the procedure.
- Maintain equipment, correct equipment malfunctions and report malfunctions for repair.
- May instruct technologists and others in the performance of technical procedures, operations of equipment, and collection and interpretation of data.
- Has knowledge of the proper operation of x-ray equipment used in the Cath Lab.
- Responsible for Quality Assurance of the x-ray equipment. These tests are outlined in the Procedure Manual.
- Maintain continuing education classes to assure certification.
- Will take call as scheduled.
- Can collect appropriate past patient information for the physician to review (old cine films, cath records, etc.)
- Adhere to behavioral standards.
- Performs other related work as required or requested.
